Hydraulic Tappets

In order to get the inner assembly out of the main body, hold against a piece of wood (cam face up) and 

slam down on the bench, the inner part will pop out after a couple of hits. I tend to think that after a long 

period of time oil stops flowing in the smaller parts. These were no exception, the oil within was very black 

and dis-coloured.

 

 

 

 

   

 

 

There is a very small non-return valve which consists of a ball bearing and tiny spring. You can just use the end of a 

can of WD40 spray tube to release the valve and squirt oil past the ball, until clear WD40 runs out. 

 

When all done, the piston should move freely with in the inner cylinder, clean out the main tappet body and just 

push the inner assy back in.
