Front Caliper Hoses
Old Parts

- The drum retaining screw can be difficult to remove when rusted in place,
or in the xase with these, sealed
- with loctite !! I use a tight fit cross head bit and tap it with a
hammer which normally disturbs it enough to
- unscrew easily.

- The caliper has to be un-bolted to replace the discs, but in my case I
disconnected the brake pipe feed
- and capped the end so as not to lose brake fluid. I had also clamped the
flexi hose, but these were to
- be replaced aswell, so I needed the extra leak stop.

The shoes and retaining parts removed, notice the adjuster at the top, the
star wheel can be turned
via access through a hole in the drum, often if the shoes have made a ridge
in the drum the adjuster
will need to be backed off before the disc can be removed. The shoes were not
actually in bad
condition.

- These two rectangular holes either side of the backplate are used to
push the pin through (has a square
- lug on the end) which holds the shoes against the backplate, often the
back plate gets so rusty along with
- the pins that the just pull through, then the shoes jam inside the
drum. Thankfully these are in good shape.

Urrhhgg !, quite a state the pistons, these were originally chrome plate,
which is all gone where the pistons pertrude.

No better after a clean up........

Twist with a pipe wrench and the old pistons easily pull out

I am quite sure had I pushed these back in to replace just the brake pads,
the rusted area's would have damaged the
seals and allowed brake fluid to piss out !

Wiper seal removal.

Wiper seal retaining ring.
