- Oil Catch Tank
- In the process of
investigating the sump vacuum issue, I found that there is a lot of oil
being dumped
- onto the air filter which
originates from the cam cover breather. There is supposed to be a filter
within
- the cam cover, but over time
this disintegrates and no longer prevents oil being blown into the air box.
- A lot of the oil vapour gets sucked straight
into the inlet manifold off boost, on boost this vapour gets
- pulled through the turbo's and pushed through
the charge cooler, this is bad because
- hot oil rich vapours lose engine power and can
ultimately lead to pre-ignition.
- Unfortunately emission standards dictate these fumes have
to be burnt off in combustion / cats.
- Some of the oil in the vapour condenses in the
green filter. This was a clean air filter only a few hundred
- miles ago, already there is oil which has
dripped from the green filter in the air box lid and is being soaked
- up by the filter paper.
- My plan is to make a custom
oil catch tank to take fumes from the cam cover, remove some of the
oil
- and pass the fumes on into the
green filter device in the air box lid.
-
- The only place available seems
to be between the air box and from headlight.
-
-
- A cardboard mock up to check
for fit.
-
- I think connections from cam
cover to air box will work quite well.
