- Rear Wheel Bearings
- A job I've been looking forward to, ok not really!
- I did this job a while ago and forgot to write this up
so now my memory
- might be a little suspect getting the order of pictures
correct.
-
- Firstly knock up some tooling from scrap lying around
your workshop.
- Jack up car, remove road wheel blah blah blah........
-
- Bolted a bar to the hub flange whilst undoing the
retaining nut the other side.
Remove locknut from other side.
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- Progressive aggressive tools required to remove the
stub axle (the other side
- needed a concrete breaker in the end ! no
kidding. That is probably the hardest
- part of the whole job.
Is normal that the inner race will be stuck on the stub
axle, don't worry other than
if you did this with a new bearing, it is now scrap
!
-
-
-
-
- Old bearing will wind out easy.
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- Lightly tap the outer race of the bearing to get it
centered.
-
- Press the bearing in with the tool, should be very easy
!
-
-
- I grind the inner ball race until it cracks, then will
slide off. You can buy/make
- special puller tools if you really must :-)
- Press the stub axle in with the other tooling. Be sure
to wind a small amount
- each side.
-
- Fit the drive shaft flange and tighten the lock nut
with lots of torques :-)
-
- Refit drive shafts ect ect. Go for a drive and notice
how it was exactly the same as before
- ie nothing wrong with them. Never mind !
