Oil Pump Pressure Relief Valve

This oil pressure relief valve is not from my lotus, but an old unit.
It shows how scoring and burrs can build up over time, and perhaps cause sticking valves !
Removal is relatively straight forward, remove the circlip and it will all come out........well that's the idea,
sometimes you need to work on the retaining cap with the o ring to get it out, keep tapping it into the housing
with the spring forcing it back again, lots of wd40, it will eventually come out. . Job can be done without
removing the whole pump cover, but to do a proper deburr job I'd would. There is supposed to be special
sealant used on the pump cover to timing cover.

I used some 6000grit wed n dry to smooth the burrs, especially the edges until
the valve spindle slid into it's housing smoothly. You're not looking to remove all
the scoring the thing will end up undersize !
Very light rub down of the hole that the valve slides into helped aswell, especially
near the end where the cirlcip locates as this was a little corroded.

Makes you wonder where some of the scoring comes from as the whole
thing is bathed 100% in oil, all the time !.....I've seen a low mileage one
with similar marks, I think the assy process when new is not done with
much care. Oil Path....?     Sump->Pump->Valve->Filter .......maybe it gets fed
lots of crap before the oil is filtered, especially after engine work ??
