Crank Angle Sensor

 

Although this sensor has not been a problem, I knew that replacement parts were NLS !

The OE sensor is listed as 1103703, or 10456257 delco remy

 

After some digging around the internet a part supplied by RockAuto was purchased.

ACDELCO  508 213-970 crankshaft position sensor  (9031.80.3890)

 

 

 

OE on left, the connector length is different, although the actual socket is identical.

 

 

The important bit is that the length of the sensor from the underside of the flange face 

to the end is the same. The o ring is mounted lower, but I don't think this really matters.

It does not have to seal anything as such, the replacement sensor is not wasted towards 

the flange underside, so it should locate just aswell.

 

The sensor fits ok, but because of the differing connector height, the ear of the clip fouls 

the cover casting and prevents the connector pushing home easily. It may be possible 

to fit the connector before inserting the sensor and retaining bolt, but I chose to snip off 

the offending clip ear.

 

As I thought, because the o ring is lower on the new sensor, it actually pushes all the way 

through and does nothing at all, but the sensor remains very well located all the same.

 

Engine started fine and a drive for a few miles was un-eventful, I'm going to leave the sensor 

fitted and carry the OE in the boot just in case :-)
